History

The justification of all historical study must ultimately be that it enhances our self-consciousness, enables us to see ourselves in perspective, and helps us toward that greater freedom which comes from self-knowledge.

The competition for cultural legitimacy, the tension between innovative ideas and new and old technologies, has forced groups and individuals to constantly review how society is shaped.

From the discovery of fire, to the stirrup, through to the personal computer and beyond, society is continually evolving. Is it a world "gone mad" or a world adjusting to a new order? To help bring meaning and humanity to this "new order" is just one purpose of the History department.

To assist learners creatively through the constant upheaval in the human experience so that they might come to terms with revolutionary/ evolutionary changes, is a major goal of this department.
